The Assassination Procrastination Project

If you are anything like me,you have battled the destructive disease of procrastination.

A deadly ill indeed, this dream killer is often associated with false feeding demons of doubt. It is the worst kind of self-sabotage known to any imaginative mind, and begs an antibiotic which successfully solves the symptoms of delaying your delightful destiny.“Procrastination is the kidnapper of souls and the recruiting-officer of hell.” ~ Edward Irving

Stop the Insanity!

Do you suffer symptoms of procrastination?

  1.  I’m just waiting for the perfect time to start.
  2. I hate doing this, I’ll just wait until tomorrow.
  3. I just don’t know where to begin, I am feeling so stressed and overwhelmed.
  4. This is just beyond my ability to ever finish.
  5. If I can’t do it perfectly, it isn’t worth doing.

If you answered yes to any of these, and have decided there is a better way to live your life, read on.

Take your procrastination medicine.

You don’t need Mary Popins to tell you, “A little bit of sugar helps the medicine go down,” so here’s three terrific tips to sweeten your motivation to end procrastination.

  1. Feel the Fruit of Finishing:
Enter the classroom of silence. Visualize the result of continuing to procrastinate on your target issue. How do you feel? Invigorated or depleted? Energized or empty? Now, visualize finishing your task at hand. How does your head and heart feel now? Do you feel lighter, brighter and more happy? Thinking and feeling the result of your two choices – to procrastinate or not to procrastinate – is a quick and easy way to identify what choice to choose.
  2. Keep your Image of Completion Front and Center:
A picture is worth a thousand words, and finding an image of the feeling you experienced in your visualization of completing your task at hand, is key. A magazine photo, card, or stick figure will do, just make sure it consistently ignites the positive feeling you want to achieve. Strategically place this picture in places you will see throughout your day, and trust the process to unfold. You can read more about this effort I call ‘successful sabotage’ by clicking here.
  3. Spiral Down the Solution into Small Successes:
Don’t get stuck in the over-thinking it muck. What are the small things you need to accomplish to achieve the big thing? Break it down, and then break it down into smaller more manageable efforts again. Don’t be attached or overly concerned with your main goal, simply focus on the success of completing the small task at hand in this present moment. Do each step well along the way, and before you know it, the entire journey will be complete!

Celebrate the Baby Steps You Take Along the Way!

Ultimately, you have to love yourself enough to know you are worth the effort! The world needs you, and getting things done which helps you be your best, can have a domino effect to help others be their best too.

If you plant only ‘If’s” and “someday’s” in your garden of life today, don’t be surprised when “nothing” is all that grows tomorrow. Planting seeds of “completion” today,  confidently guarantees you will inevitably grow a happy future of sunshine smiles in all your tomorrows.

“You may delay, but time will not.” ~Benjamin Franklin

Bamboo & You: Three Simple Solutions to Any Life Problem

Lessons from Bamboo

I believe all of nature speaks loudly the lessons we most need to know, but the unique attributes of beautiful Bamboo resonate especially clear the life lessons we most need to hear to live a happy life.

Widely know as a symbol of good luck, a Bamboo plant with “three stalks is considered good for happiness, five for health, two for love, eight for wealth, nine stalks for overall goodness and prosperity in the owner’s life.”

Not so widely known is the fact Bamboo is one of the strongest and fastest growing plants on Earth. Bamboo is used in a wide variety of venues such as; food, medicine, construction, paper, fabric, furniture and even music.

Want to get solutions to your problems? Be like Bamboo and live a happy life. Here’s why…

1. Be Open to Be Strong

Don’t let the hollow tubing in Bamboo deceive you. What you think may appear weak, is actually strong. The open cylinders characteristic of bamboo are solid vehicles to transport water in irrigation systems, surviving tough winters and the hottest of summers.

To receive a new of thinking, being, and doing, we have to be open to receive like the hollow channels characteristic in bamboo.

Only when we are open to receive, can we be a channel to transport wisdom, knowledge and love. In the the openness of bamboo, there is also strength.

2. Be Flexible in Storms

Bamboo is often the only thing left in tact even after the highest winds of a typhoon. The tall stalks move with the wind, not against it.

The bamboo trunk will sway and bend with the wind, while its roots remain firmly rooted in the ground. It bends, but does not break.

When storms come towards you in life, and they always will, lean with the process, not against it. “What can I learn from this problem, discomfort or difficultly?” There is always something good which can come out of something bad if we stay firmly rooted in the solid values which give purpose to our unique existence.

3. Be an Instrument of Healing

While the Bamboo flute is known to make some of the most lovely music, it is rarely recognized for its medicinal properties in healing the ills of the body or mind.

Bamboo as a medicine “is especially used for the disorder of hot phlegm that coats or obstructs the “orifices of the heart,” affecting the brain functions. Thus, it is used for epilepsy, fainting and loss of consciousness in feverish diseases, and a variety of mental disorders.”

Unsuspecting, Bamboo is a source for successful solutions to a wide variety of problems and needs. There is no part of the Bamboo which is wasted, it is all good.

“The bamboo in its simplicity expresses its usefulness. Man should do the same.” Aikido master Kensho Furuya

Father to the Fatherless

He's Got the Whole World in His Hands

I had the great privilege and pleasure of interviewing Bruce Smith this morning, Pro Football Player and author of the best selling bookOur Father:  Father to the Fatherless.

Fathers Day

It’s a perfect time to reflect on your relationship with your dad.

  • How do you define the role of Father in the healthiest sense possible?
  • Was your dad physically present, emotionally available and spiritually supportive?
  • Did your father encourage, guide and discipline you to step into your greatness?
These were just a few of the questions we discussed in our time together.
Listen to the Recording with Bruce Smith Now - Click Here.

Bruce Smith

Bruce Smith by worldly standards had it all.  A successful pro football career, beautiful wife, great kids, top sales awards in his business, community service awards for his outstanding contributions to youth and ministry, the big home, Mercedes Benz, best vacations.  What could possibly be missing?

Abandoned by Dad
What Bruce Smith didn’t have was a father.  His dad left the family when he was only two years old, and subsequently his step-dad years later was abusive. Anger and bullying became a lifestyle.
Bruce shares numerous statistics of hostile youth, teen pregnancies, addictions, even facts from prison, and how most of these tragic circumstances can be traced back to the lack of a strong, supportive, loving father figure.
Our Father
Bruce talks about how each of us possess a deep need to connect and form meaningful relationships.  At our core desire, we will never be at peace until we can forgive the pain of the past, and trust in the hope of a good and loving heavenly Father, who can comfort and heal any broken heart.
Regardless of how good or bad you may perceive your father to be, the fact you are here makes his existence worthwhile.  You are worthwhile.

Turning An Upside Down World, Right-Side Up

Green Sky and Blue Grass is a blog about turning an upside down world, right-side up.

To start the blog, here is a poem by William Blake-

Ah Sunflower

Ah Sunflower, weary of time,
Who countest the steps of the sun;
Seeking after that sweet golden clime
Where the traveller’s journey is done;

Where the Youth pined away with desire,
And the pale virgin shrouded in snow,
Arise from their graves, and aspire
Where my Sunflower wishes to go!

Awareness: Do You Know Who YOU Are? 3 Quick Questions

You must be self aware.

Do YOU Know YOU?

Aristotle stated “The unexamined life is not worth living,” hundreds of years ago. I have found it not only remains a modern day nicety – it’s downright dangerous to not examine and know who you truly are.

Do you really know you?

What if I told you that you were the eagle in this story? OK, I am. So open your mind, and read with patient reflection what I’m trying to show you. [Read more...]

Grieving into Healing: Hope in Suffering

Funeral for a Friend

It has been said, “Anyone can die, but not everyone can live.”

Funeral For a Friend

Can you relate to this?

I have been attempting to go to daily Mass for Lent (please don’t hate me because I’m Catholic!), and it just so happened the other day was a Funeral Mass for no one in particular I knew. Or did I?

As I sat through the service, I felt as though I had known “Cliff” all my life. Being in the presence of his family and friends, created a powerful visual of ME being laid in that casket, and how I would feel, what I would leave behind, when I die? We all die.

New Life from Death – What are YOU here for?

As thoughts raced through the recess of my heart, I realized there were four critical keys which seemed to last. I call them the four for living before you die.

The Journey of Your Life

The word “for” as defined by Webster’s dictionary is; “with the purpose of,” “intended to belong to or used in connection with,” “in order to obtain, gain or acquire, suiting the purpose of or needs of.”

So what on earth are YOU here for?

1.  Better for having met you?

One of my favorite quotes is,”people won’t remember what you said, but they will always remember how you made them feel.” I try to live my life so that everyone I have met is better off for the experience. Of course, this demands I live consciously, in the present moment, with active listening, and a genuine concern for my effect on every person I meet. How are people better off for having met you?

2.  More Forgiveness less Resentment?

Not living in forgiveness only hurts you. Remaining in a state of resentment is like “taking arsenic and expecting the other person to die.” It’s simply insane! Forgiveness is NOT in the feeling; it’s only in the action. If someone has wronged you (and we all have been unjustly wronged), forgiving them is simply letting them go, wishing them no ill will, not acting revengefully, and trusting that God, the Universe, your Higher Power, will take care of the justice in the given situation. Forgiveness is like a pair of scissors, which cuts you out of the web of toxicity, setting you free to fly. Forgiveness is your freedom which detaches you from recycling pain. “Pain is inevitable but suffering is optional.” Who or what do you need to forgive?

3.  Less Forcing Outcomes and more Acceptance?

I don’t know about you, but most of my plans, good or bad, never turn out exactly as I planned. Some much better, some a heck of a lot worse. Are you aware you are part of the natural flow in the river of life? Accepting the way things are, instead of the way you want them to be, removes control you have to know everything. How can you truly know the long term outcome of any given situation anyway? Can you recall an event you thought for sure would be bad, which turned out great? Of course! Heroic humility allows you to be teachable in every moment, learning new ways of being, doing and feeling. Accept life on life’s terms, and embrace the possibilities. What do you need to detach from and accept today?

4.  Check your Motivation – is it always for Giving more Love?

You can do the right thing for the wrong reason, which makes it ultimately worthless to you. How can you always know the truth of a situation; check your motivation. If your motivation is self serving, for personal gain, involves pride and control, get rid of it. The only report card you’ll be getting in earth school is reflecting back on your life and determining whatever you did, did you do it with love? Check your motivation – are you doing it with love?

The best way to take your spiritual temperature on this is to identify the measurement of your internal peace vs. confusion. Where there is peace in the core of your heart, there is truth for you. This is your purpose, your call, your gift to the world. You will always be in the arms of love which lasts a lifetime when you are living in peace and truth.

Sit in the classroom of silence to listen to the words you most need to hear.

Reflecting on your death can bring new life. You are here for a necessary reason, in your circle of influence, no one else can touch the world with the exact sparkle of you. The world needs you! Get out and live with boldness and passion. How do you want to be remembered when the funeral for a friend is the friend in you?

Every End is a New Beginning

Heart – What is Your Heart Telling You?

As featured in:  Best Ever YOU! Magazine

What is your heart telling you?

Your Heart Speaks!

You’ve heard it before. Doctors tell you to maintain a “healthy heart” to keep a healthy body. Your relationship has gone sour, and you talk to your family and friends about your “broken heart.” Therapist speak of your “heavy heart” catalyzing depression, and exercise trainers emphasize you won’t achieve your targeted weight until you perform aerobic exercise at your “target heart rate.” Even the Bible tells us to “guard your heart with the closest custody, for in it are the sources of your life.” Yes indeed, the heart is the universal symbol that speaks love in any language.

It would appear, the answers you most desire in your head, can only be discovered through the spiritual journey into your heart.

Heart Ache can be one of sadness or joy, but make no mistake, it can never be ignored. When you feel that tug in your heart – know in your head it’s a powerful prompt and call for you to take some immediate action.

If you have recently loss a loved one, you know what heartache does to your entire body in the grieving process. The sadness seems to embed itself into each blood cell pumping throughout your veins. Be gentle with yourself, for this is your call to heartfelt peace.

I <3 You

The freshness of a new found love will wrap your heart in an ache of euphoria -to the point you can’t think of anything else but your beloved.
Your mind will wander into daydreams of pleasant reminders with the one you love, automatically recycling the happiness of unending blissful joy.. Yes, your love ache can quickly become an addiction which sweeps you down the aisle of “I do – until death do us part.”

When you pray or meditate, you can only experience transformation through prayer from the heart. You must experience the words you speak, the affirmations you visualize, in order to generate any success in your ultimate transformation. Words are just empty vessels without value, if you don’t pour authenticity into the equation.

To be truly alive requires a functioning heart. You can’t take a breath without your heart. Your heart is the center of your being, the ultimate indicator of being human. Your heart is the greatest gift you can ever give to another, and the most powerful motivator in achieving your dream.

As you focus on tangible ways to improve the clinical health of your heart, don’t forget to incorporate creative ways to hear the messages your heart beats to speak to you.

Beauty & PeaceA heart filled with love and forgiveness is a medicine without any side effects, and a reliable cure for challenges even the blind can clearly see.
